My time at Environment Canterbury: THE ISSUES

When I stood for Ecan in 2016, these were the policies identified and progress has been made on all of them.

I undertook to keep climate change front and centre of future thinking.

I have been closely involved with the Canterbury Water Management Strategy for the last five years and support the concept behind it.

The efficient distribution of stored water will future proof agricultural production.
There is little or no evidence so far that the Strategy has improved water quality, biodiversity or enhanced the environment.

I undertook to continue to work towards a sustainable future where farming activity works in concert with the environment and does not degrade it.

Public transport in Christchurch fails to attract new patrons.

I undertook to seek ways to provide a low carbon public transport system, both bus and rail, that reflects people’s needs.

As a Banks Peninsula District Councillor I qualified to sit on RMA hearings panels and so have a good working knowledge of the law and policy framework.

As chairman of the Canterbury/Aoraki Conservation Board I got to know the whole region from the Waitaki to Kaikoura.
